Jelly's World is the story of a regular guy, his crazy friends, the world he finds himself in.
It started out as a way to take a somewhat objective look at the history of my relationships: the good, the bad, the gigantic mistakes. Anyway, I soon figured out that relationships are mostly boring (and somewhat whiny) to read about, and so it kinda veered off into being a much less accurate depiction of my life, with kidnappings and gold-painted urinal cakes and squid babies. The relationship stuff is still there, but it's been moved to the backseat where it can make out with random people.
You can follow along with the comic through Twitter, Facebook, RSS and Tumblr.
Three times a week. I'm usually doing the comic Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, though it sometimes slips through to the following day.
With lots of patience. Also a magical combination of old fashioned pencil and paper, with some new-school Flash and Wacom action thrown in. Backdrops are digitally painted in Photoshop.
My name is Daniel, although pretty much everybody except my parents knows me as Jelly. I have no preference regarding sunsets and long walks on the beach, however I am a big fan of Scrubs, Psych and Dinosaur Comics.
On weekdays, I drive to work and pretend to be normal so I can be a user interface designer and developer in a small development team making web applications for the Australian Government. Sometimes I can't hold it in, though, and then I can be found walking the halls and pretending that my hands are miniture fighter planes or at my desk rocking out to the Glee soundtrack.
The rest of the time I work on a smorgasboard of different projects that take my fancy: designing and building websites and iPhone apps, writing and producing films and working on the comic that you now find yourself reading.
And yes. I do have a white patch of hair at the front of my head. It's natural.
In a manner of speaking, yes. Except for the ones that aren't.
Both (real-life) Kieran and myself say that the comic version is a mild comparison to the real one. He really does rub a lot of people the wrong way, and often will take up a controversial point of view in order to do just that.
That being said, we're clearly still friends. So either I have a high tolerance, or he can't be as bad as he attempts to be.
Yes. We're currently on the final storyline before the comic is done and dusted.
Basically, I've got the skeleton of a script that I want to make into a graphic novel of sorts. Unfortunately, given that Jelly's World takes up the majority of my time right now, it means I have to put it away while I work on this new story. I can't really work on both, because I want them both to be everything they can be, which isn't possible if I'm dividing my focus.
However, the plan isn't to end it for good. Think of it more as an indefinite hiatus, or a season break, since I will probably come back to Jelly's World once I've found the time to properly devote to it.
Well, that's easy! You can write me an email and ask whatever you want!
